Acknowledge, reframe, and pivot under hostile questioning — in controlled formal Spanish, out loud.
The spokesperson's formula in Spanish is reconocer + recontextualizar + pivotar. Acknowledge without admitting: tomamos nota y estamos revisando la información buys time without sounding evasive. Reframe — hay que poner esto en su justo contexto — then pivot to a verifiable record: hablemos de lo que sí hemos hecho. Never deny categorically before you know the facts: no nos consta en este momento leaves you room that eso es absolutamente falso doesn't. And know your línea roja — the point where the honest move is to stop spinning and admitir y reparar.
Below: the phrases that carry a hostile interview, the bridging moves that keep you on message, the mistakes that turn a manageable crisis into a headline — and a way to rehearse the whole press conference out loud before the cameras are real.

Regional Spanish
Textbooks teach one word. Locals use several — pick your region's and stay consistent.
Watch out
The part no phrase list can do
Isabella
Your conversation teacher for this pack
In the Spin Doctor lessons you're the spokesperson, and Isabella is the senior investigative journalist leading the press pool — sharp, prepared, holding documents you don't know she has, quoting your own earlier words back at you the moment you contradict yourself. It's a press conference room full of cameras, ninety minutes after the story broke, every line clippable for the evening news. She produces a document mid-question, poses a loaded question that presupposes guilt, and asks for a denial you can't honestly give — and you have to handle all of it. Out loud, in crisp formal Spanish.
Blank mid-sentence and nothing bad happens — she waits. That's the practice, without unnecessary judgement.
Quick answers
Acusar recibo — acknowledge receipt without committing: tomamos nota, estamos revisando la información, or in Mexico, no vamos a especular sobre algo que apenas se está aclarando. It signals seriousness while you verify the facts.
A puente conversacional moves you from the question you got to the message you need: la pregunta relevante no es esa, sino… or, more formally, permítame reenmarcar la cuestión. Used sparingly it sounds composed; overused it sounds like dodging.
They carry near-legal precision — you engage with the accusation without conceding it, and you're not exposed if new evidence appears.
Three signals: new evidence, internal contradiction, or a reputational cost bigger than the benefit. Past that line, keep reframing and you're lying by omission — mentir por omisión también es mentir. The move is admitir y reparar: hoy corresponde reconocer el error y pedir disculpas.
