Coaching Spanish is a discipline of open questions, not advice. You open in the second person and hold back your opinion: cuéntame qué te trajo aquí hoy. You challenge with the conditional, which turns confrontation into hypothesis — si tuvieras que titular este momento de tu carrera, ¿qué título le pondrías? — and you name a limiting belief without attacking the person: esa creencia no es un hecho, es una hipótesis. The reframe that unlocks everything is one word swap: from por qué no puedo to cómo podría. And a session without a close is just a nice chat — un plan sin fechas es un deseo.

Desafiando creencias limitantes

Watch out

Mistakes that mark you as a textbook speaker

  1. Dar consejos antes de entender el contexto completo; el coach que se adelanta actúa como consultor, no como coach.
  2. Usar preguntas cerradas ('¿no crees que...?', '¿no sería mejor...?') que en realidad son opiniones disfrazadas.
  3. Terminar la sesión con motivación pero sin plan; la emoción sin acción se disipa en 24 horas.

  • She asks for the student's opinion directly mid-session; the student must hold the coaching frame and return the question rather than collapsing into advice-giver

How do you ask good coaching questions in Spanish?

Open, second person, no advice hidden inside: cuéntame qué te trajo aquí hoy, sin filtros and ¿qué te gustaría sacar en claro de esta conversación? The trap is closed questions that are really opinions in disguise — ¿no crees que...? is telling, not asking.

How do you challenge someone's limiting belief in Spanish without offending them?

Separate the story from the person: esa historia que te cuentas sobre ti mismo, ¿te sirve o te frena? Then downgrade the belief from fact to hypothesis: déjame confrontarte con cariño: esa creencia no es un hecho, es una hipótesis. Warmth is what makes the challenge land as care, not attack.

How do you say 'what I'm hearing is...' in Spanish?

Lo que estoy oyendo es que... — the active-listening paraphrase that validates without agreeing. Pair it with corrígeme si me equivoco so the other person stays the authority on their own story.

How do you turn goals into an action plan in Spanish?

Shrink it and date it. Ask ¿cuál es la acción más pequeña que, si la hicieras mañana, te acercaría al objetivo? — then pin it down, because un plan sin fechas es un deseo: dates, milestones, and who's involved.

How do you hold someone accountable in Spanish?

Make the commitment external and spoken: ¿a quién le vas a contar este plan para que alguien te pregunte si lo estás cumpliendo? Then set the check-in — quedamos en que en dos semanas me escribes contándome qué has hecho y qué no. As the coaches say: un compromiso dicho en voz alta pesa más que uno que solo vive en tu cabeza.
