Privacy Policy

AndBe ("we," "our," or "us") is an AI-powered language learning platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the AndBe mobile application ("App").

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address — used for authentication and account recovery
• Name — used to personalize your learning experience
• Authentication credentials — managed securely through Firebase Authentication or Sign in with Apple

Learning Data

As you use AndBe, we collect:

• Language proficiency level — your self-reported CEFR level (A1–C2)
• Learning goals — the goals you select during onboarding
• Lesson history — records of completed lessons and conversation turns
• Badge progress — achievements earned through learning activities

App Identifiers

To run the app we maintain a User ID linked to your account. The User ID is used for authentication, to keep your lessons and progress consistent across sessions, and to power personalization features (such as adapting AI teachers to your level). It is also linked to product analytics, helping us understand which features are valuable. We do not use the User ID for cross-app advertising or share it with data brokers.

Profile Pictures

You may optionally upload a profile picture. These images are uploaded to Google Cloud Storage and linked to your account. They are used solely to personalize your in-app profile and are never used for advertising. Profile pictures are deleted when you delete your account.

Voice Data

During lessons, your spoken Spanish is captured by your device's microphone and processed as follows:

• Capture — audio is buffered briefly on your device.
• Transmission — audio is sent encrypted to our speech-to-text provider (Deepgram or OpenAI Whisper, depending on the lesson).
• Transcription — the provider converts audio to text in real time.
• Disposal — raw audio is deleted by the provider after transcription. We do not retain or archive voice recordings, and audio is not linked to your user identity in our systems.
• What persists — only the transcribed text is kept as part of your lesson conversation history, linked to your account.

Microphone access is optional. You can deny it and continue using the app via text input.

App Usage and Diagnostics

To keep AndBe stable and to understand how features are used, we collect:

• Product Interaction — anonymous events about how you use the app, such as which screens you visit, which AI teachers you tap, and how many lessons you start. Not linked to your identity.
• Crash Data — automatic anonymous reports when the app crashes, including stack traces, device model, and OS version. Used solely to fix bugs.

These categories are processed via Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics and are not used for advertising or sold to data brokers.

Purchase Information

In-app purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. We receive confirmation of purchases but do not collect or store your payment details (credit card numbers, billing address, etc.). Apple handles all payment processing.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and personalize the language learning experience
• Generate AI-powered lesson content tailored to your proficiency level
• Track your learning progress and award achievement badges
• Manage your account and credit balance
• Improve the quality of our AI teachers and lesson content
• Send service-related communications (e.g., account verification)

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to provide AndBe:

• Google Cloud Platform — cloud hosting and data storage
• Firebase (Google) — authentication, user management, and push notifications
• Firebase Crashlytics — anonymous crash reporting
• Firebase Analytics — anonymous product analytics
• OpenAI / Anthropic — AI language model providers for lesson generation
• Deepgram / OpenAI Whisper — speech-to-text transcription
• Cartesia — text-to-speech voice generation for AI teachers
• Sign in with Apple — optional authentication; Apple handles credential exchange and token issuance
• Google Sign-In — optional authentication; Google handles credential exchange and token issuance

Each of these services operates under its own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data necessary for each service to function. We do not sell your personal data to any third party, and we do not allow these providers to use your data to train their own models.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Google Cloud Platform servers located in the United States. We use industry-standard security measures including:

• Encrypted data transmission (TLS/HTTPS)
• Encrypted data storage at rest
• Token-based authentication for all API requests
• Role-based access controls for internal systems

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytics purposes.

To protect against abuse of new-user signup credits, we retain the email address used to register a deleted account indefinitely after deletion. This is the only personal data we retain beyond the 30-day deletion window described above. The retained email is used solely to identify repeat signups from the same address; it is not used for marketing, analytics, sharing with third parties, or any other purpose. You may request removal of this record by contacting us at the email address below.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — update or correct inaccurate personal data
• Deletion — delete your account and all linked personal data
• Export — receive your data in a portable format

Deleting Your Account

You can delete your account at any time directly from within the app:

1. Open AndBe and go to Settings.
2. Tap Delete Account.
3. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Your account, lesson history, badges, profile picture, and all linked personal data are permanently removed within 30 days. Unused credits are forfeited and are not refundable. After deletion you may sign up again to create a new account, but previous learning history will not be restored.

7. Children's Privacy

AndBe is rated 17+ on the App Store and is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will promptly delete it. Parents or guardians who believe their child has created an account may contact us at the email below to request deletion.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the updated policy in the App and updating the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of AndBe after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
